Step 1: First open the terminal of your Ubuntu operating system. You can open your terminal by pressing Control, Alt and T at the same time. You can also go to the Unity dashboard and search by the keyword “Terminal” and click on the terminal. Or you can right click on the Desktop and click on “Open Terminal”.

Step 2: Now it’s time to update the repository information of your Ubuntu operating system. The repository is updated frequently, so if you have an old repository database on your Ubuntu system, you will end up installing an old version of VLC media player. Because your Ubuntu operating system won’t have any idea that there is new VLC media player packages available. Run the following command and press enter,

“sudo apt-get update”

It will prompt you for your password. Type in your user password and press Enter.

Package repository update will start automatically. Wait for it to finish, it will take some time if it’s the first time you’re running this command.

Step 3: Once it’s complete. Run the following command.
“sudo apt-get install filezilla”

Type in your user password and press Enter.

On the prompt, press y and press Enter. VLC media player installation will start.

It will take several minutes depending on your internet speed. Wait and let it finish.

Step 4: Once FileZilla is installed, go to the Unity dash and type “FileZilla” and click on the launcher icon of FileZilla.

FileZilla FTP client GUI will start. Click on “Ok”.

Now you can type in the details like hostname, username, password, port and click on “Quickconnect” to connect to any ftp server.

That’s how you install FileZilla on your Ubuntu operating system.
