Google chrome is a browser made by Google. It’s a fast, modern browser for everyone. Google chrome is available on Ubuntu/Linux, Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s Mac OS X. So it is really very popular web browser.

This is a step-by-step tutorial on how to install Google Chrome web browser from google on Ubuntu. To follow this tutorial, you need to have the following requirements:

  • A computer with Ubuntu operating system installed.
  • Good internet connection to download the required software packages from the internet.
  • Ubuntu software center must be installed. 

Step 1: To install google chrome on Ubuntu, first we have to download the google chrome binary file for Ubuntu from google chrome’s official website. Go to https://www.google.com/chrome/ from Mozilla Firefox or any of your favorite web browser.

Once the page loads, click on the “Download” blue button as shown in the screenshot.

Step 2: Select “64 bit .deb(For Debian/Ubuntu)” and click on “Accept and Install”.

Once the download prompt is shown, Click on “Save File” and click on “Ok” to save Google Chrome binary file to your computer.

Wait till the download is finished. It will take several minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Step 3: Once the download is complete, go to the Downloads folder and right click on the installation file. Click on “Open with Software Install”.

This will bring up the Ubuntu Software Center. Click on “Install”.

You will be prompted for the password. Type in your password and click on “Authenticate”.

The installation will begin. Please wait till it’s complete.

Step 4: Once the installation is complete. Go to Unity dash and search “Google”. You should see Google Chrome launcher icon.

Click on the launcher and Google Chrome browser will open.
