Microsoft MCSE Certification

Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) is the highest pathway of certification for IT professionals through Microsoft. Hailed by Microsoft as the leading and globally-recognized standard in IT-certification exams, MCSE exams are intended to show an individual’s mastery of a particular field of information technology.

MCSE Tracks

Currently, there are twelve different areas in which one may test and demonstrate their technological proficiency through the MCSE pathways.

MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure, MCSE: Mobility, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics, MCSE: Productivity, MCSE: Server Infrastructure, MCSE: Private Cloud, MCSE: Enterprise Devices and Apps, MCSE: Data Platform, MCSE: Business Intelligence, MCSE: Messaging, MCSE: Communication, and MCSE: Sharepoint.

Each certification pathway includes its own specific course content and exam qualifications, as each pathway is designed to certify one’s knowledge of a different area of information technology. A brief overview of exam requirements for each pathway will be listed.

MCSE: Cloud Platform Infrastructure: one must first have an MCSA certification in either MCSA: Windows Server 2016, Cloud Platform, Linux on Azure, or Windows Server 2012. Additionally, individuals must pass one of the following exams: 532, 533, 534, 473, or 475.

MCSE: Mobility requires one first earn MCSA: Windows 10 certification before passing one of the following exams: 695, 696, or 398.

MCSE: Data Management and Analytics requires that one first have an MCSA certification in one of the following: MCSA: SQL Server 2012/2014, MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Administration, MCSA: SQL 2016 Database Development, or MCSA: SQL 2016 Business Intelligence Development. Additionally, individuals must pass one of the following exams: exams 473, 475, 464, 465, 466, or 467.

MCSE: Productivity requires that one must have MCSA: Office 365 certification and then pass one of the following exams: exams 345, 339, 333, 334, 331, 332, 341, or 342.

MCSE: Server Infrastructure requires passing the following exams: 410, 411, and 412.

MCSE: Private Cloud Certification requires passing exams 410-411.

MCSE: Enterprise Devices and Apps require passing exams 698, 697, and 695.

MCSE: Data Platform requires passing exams 461- 465, as well as requiring that you can sustain your performance by taking a re-certification exam every three years.

MCSE: Business Intelligence Certification qualifies one for a position as a BI or reporting engineer and requires exams 461, 462, 463, 466, and 467. It also requires being recertified every three years.

MCSE: Messaging certification requires re-certification every three years and is obtained by passing exams 346, 347, and 345. After passing the first two exams, an individual may receive MCSA: Office 365 certification.

MCSE: Communication certification requires passing exams 346, 347, 333, and 334, as well as being recertified every three years.

MCSE: SharePoint requires taking and passing exams 346, 347, and 339. As with other MCSE certifications, one must be recertified every three years.
